The pulleys in the derailleur help to maintain tension in the chain and ensure smooth shifting between gears. The springs in the derailleur help to keep the chain in place and assist in the shifting process. Overall, the derailleur is a crucial component in the bike's gear system, allowing the rider to easily change gears and maintain an efficient pedaling cadence. **
